Kids Triathlon Returns, Now Sanctioned by USA Triathlon

TAMPA, FL - The Tampa Bay Kids Triathlon, a running, biking and swimming event for children, will return to Adventure Island for the second year on March 22.

USA Triathlon, the governing body for the sport, has sanctioned the event this year.

The sanction process guides event directors through design of an event-specific safety plan, according to USA Triathlon’s website.

Adventure Island, part of Busch Gardens Tampa, hosts the triathlon in conjunction with the Tampa Bay Sports Commission.

The Sports Commission developed the event through its Event Development Institute, the sports event incubator it launched in June.

The triathlon will offers divisions for children ages 6-10 and 11-14.

As of Friday afternoon, close to 200 children were signed up to participate.

Registration for the 2014 triathlon is pacing ahead of last year’s event, which attracted about 220 participants, said Michael Farrant of the Sports Commission.
